After months without a permanent athletic director, The Lincoln University has hired Darryl Pope to fill the role.
Pope is currently the Director of Athletics and Physical Activity at the College of Lake County in Grayslake, IL.
He has about 18 years of experience working in positions with the athletic departments of numerous colleges.
Some of them include Kennesaw State University, Oglethorpe University, Oglethorpe University, Temple University and University of Maryland Eastern Shore.
He also formally worked with the NCAA monitoring Division I schools making sure that they adhered to the rules.
He was hired after by President Robert Jennings after a recommendation by the Athletic Director’s search committee, made up of various Lincoln personnel.
“We felt that (Pope) was a great candidate for the job,” said Lincoln Sports Information Director Jason Pompey. “He’ll give the kind of direction that we need in this department.”
Lincoln’s athletic department was without a permanent director since Dianthia Ford-Kee left the position after five years to work at Mississippi Valley State University.
Lincoln Vince President of Student Affairs F. Carl Walton served as the interim director since Ford-Kee’s departure in November.
“Dr. Walton has a lot of duties on campus,” said Pompey. “I think Dr. Pope will give everything a breath of fresh air as he can focus solely on our program here.”
Pope will begin working at Lincoln on March 31.
