Tournament Time: Men and Women’s Basketball Teams Set for CIAA

The Lincoln University women’s and men basketball teams lost their regular season finales versus Virginia State University on the road.

Both teams will now move on to compete in the CIAA Tournament this week.

The women’s team lost to Virginia State 75-64 on Saturday.

Despite being up by 12 early in the second half, the Lady Lions could not hold off VSU as they coughed up 17 turnovers in the final period, 32 overall, and committed 13 personal fouls. Sophomore guard

Amani Clark scored a game-high 23 points, which was a career best.

The Lady Lions end the season with an 11-15 record, having lost their last seven.

They clinched the sixth seed in the CIAA’s Northern Division, and will play Winston Salem State University in the opening round of the tournament.

In their one meeting this season back on January 4, Lincoln lost in a 72-63 road away game. The latest contest between the two will be held at 2:40 pm on Tuesday.

The men fell to VSU on Saturday 73-57.

The Lions trailed for most of the game as they shot only 26 percent from the field and got outrebounded by 18.

Senior guard Derrick Washington led Lincoln with 11 points.

The Lions finish the season with an 18-8 overall record, a 10-6 conference record and a 13-2 record on their home floor.

They secured the second seed in the northern division and will play Fayetteville State University in the quarterfinal round of the tournament. These two teams played once this season, where Lincoln was victorious in a 74-69 game at home. The rematch will be held on Thursday at 7:00 p.m.

The annual CIAA Tournament will take place at the Time Warner Arena Cable in Charlotte, NC. The championship games will be held on Saturday, March 1.
