Lincoln University’s new student president challenged her classmates Thursday to look beyond their current selves to see what they might become.
“You have to be able to sacrifice who you are to be who you want to be,” said Winnie Rebekah Mae Washington, president of the Student Government Association.
Washington and other new officers of the SGA were inducted at the convocation at the International Cultural Center. Students gave Washington’s speech a standing ovation.
Students were enthusiastic about the new year and the new SGA leadership.
“I can’t wait to see what this year’s SGA has in store for us,” said junior Jasmine Stone. “All I can see is good things, especially after the ‘Welcome Back Week’ they hosted at the beginning of semester.”
Washington and the other SGA officers were elected in March. The other officers are Secrtary Alicia Robinson, Treasurer Michael Frazier, Vice President of External Affairs Lowell Howard and Vice President of Internal Affairs Nobuko Maybin.
Students and the new SGA officers heard words of encouragement from President Robert R. Jennings and Vice President of Student Affairs F. Carl Walton.
