On Saturday, the Lincoln University baseball team picked up a pair of wins on their home field in a doubleheader against Virginia University of Lynchburg.
The initial game began with Lincoln racing out to a 5-0 lead by the bottom of the first inning.
Those five runs were scored by Richard Holguin, Christian Valdez, Steve Talmo, David Christian and Brandon Bolden. Holguin later picked up a sixth run for the Lions in the second inning.
VUL made the game somewhat interesting as they scored two runs in the sixth inning. Lincoln was able to hold them off, however, with the help of pitching by Stephen Smith. Smtih threw eight strikes in the contest and collected the win.
The second game was not as competitive.
Lincoln grabbed control through the first inning with a 4-1 lead. In the third inning they erupted for six runs while giving up none.
They held VUL empty for the rest of the game as well, finishing with a final score of 13-1.
Bolden handled the pitching duties this time around as he racked up the victory.
The Lions, who are now 4-16 on the season, will play their next series of games on Wednesday as they host Millersville University for a doubleheader at the Lincoln University Baseball Field beginning at 1pm.
