Students attending a campus event on Wednesday didn’t just go on dates.  They learned about how to maintain healthy relationships once those dates progress into love.

On January 30, Sisters That Are Respected Seriously – or STARS – held its annual “Zodiac Speed Dating” event.  Attendees of the event share their zodiac information before enjoying a round of dates in short period of time.

But once the fun ended, students were invited to hear a lecture by Malcolm A. Newman, a Maryland-based relationship specialist and book author.

He was invited by STARS president Hawa Sesey and spoke to students about relationship choices and preferences

STARS which is a domestic violence advocacy organization has been on Lincoln University’s campus since 2008 and is the only collegiate chapter in the United States. With 16 members on campus and over 75 members worldwide STARS continues to grow.

“STARS represented a strong sisterhood that was not forced. I grew up in a domestic violence-based home with my parents, so it was an outlet for me and a way to talk to females that have been through similar situations,” said member Marshayla Kinsel, a graduating senior.

Many who attended the events seemed to leave pleased.

“I had a lot of fun and the speaker was good, I wouldn’t mind going to another program sponsored by these ladies,” said student Crystal Dewindt.
