The Lady Lions volleyball team won in exciting fashion beating the Lady Wolves of Cheyney University in four sets.
Leading the way for the Lady Lions was junior Brianna McKellery with 12 kills. She also added two blocks. Sophomore Tarayja Brooks and true freshman Erica McClain had a team-high six service aces. McClain also had a game-high 26 assists.
Overcoming a small deficit, the Lady Lions won the first set by a close score of 26-24 and also dominated the second set 25-16.
The lady wolves did not go down without a fight, they went on to win the third set 25-18.
The lady lions also celebrated the “Dig Pink” in honor of breast cancer awareness. The women’s basketball team painted nails and took donations all night for the cause.
Denyse Moore of the women’s basketball team said “Breast cancer is something that not only affects a small amount of women but it affects the world as a whole.”
She went on to say, “I know that we all know someone who has had it or even know someone who has been diagnosed with it. Our own “Miss P” [Linda Peterson] is a survivor and that’s someone in the athletic department family. So when I think about what we do I think of her.”
The lady lions led the final set 25-19.
The lady wolves were led by Kennetha Wallace with 12 digs, 11 assists and seven kills.
