By Ashley Reding Lincoln University is changing the “traditional” Thursdays to Lincoln’s Roaring Thursdays.
Student Life and Development (SLD) presents Roaring Thursdays as an “Alcohol Free Zone”. It is also an alternative programming for the campus. Roaring Thursdays, which kicked off on January 19th consist of activities such as Air Bunker Ball, a caricature artist, Marvel game Tournaments, and Thursday night at the cinema from 6-8 pm.
“We wanted to provide appeal and something new to our students,” said Shawn Moore, coordinator of Student Life & Development.
Some students agreed that something new was needed and thought Roaring Thursdays was a good solution.
“I felt a sense of community with the laughs and jokes”, said junior Shaquana Henley.
Despite the “traditional” Thursday where many of our students partake in Alcoholic activities, the attendance of the recent Roaring Thursday turned out well.
“It was a great turn out, and I had fun”, said Cheyenne Simon, junior, who enjoyed the Air Bunker Ball.
SLD will continue with Roaring Thursdays next week. They will be having LU’s Got Talent on February 2nd. Students will have a chance to showcase their talent and compete for the first place prize of two hundred dollars. SLD are asking students to sign up by Friday, January 27th in the Student Union Building, room 130, if interested. Students should also look out for e-mails and flyers for upcoming Roaring Thursday events.
With Roaring Thursdays on campus, it is safe to say that we will be expecting more participation from our students.
