Lincoln Lions Defeated By ECSU in the Last Game of the Season

By D’ante Smith–The Lincoln Lions fell to the Elizabeth City State Vikings 39-14 last Saturday as they concluded their season.

The Vikings were lead by a powerful running game as Delonte McNeill became ECSU’s All Time Leading Rusher with 41 carries and 189 yards.

The Vikings jumped out to a 13 point lead as McNeill rushed for the first two touchdowns. Neither team added to the scoreboard, so they went into halftime with the Vikings leading 13-0.

ECSU scored on their first possession of the half as, running back Dominic Strand rushed in the end zone for one yard.

The following kickoff, Junior kick returner Ivan Mitchell fumbled the ball, giving ECSU the ball right back. ECSU went on to score on a 33 yard pass from Dominic Strand to wide receiver Anthony Faulcon pushing the score to 25-0. ECSU went on to add another passing touchdown stretching the lead to 32-0.

The Lions offense began to come to life in the fourth quarter as quarterback Doug Cook connected with wide receiver Matthew Coston for two touchdown passes of 45 yards and three yeards, bringing the score to 32-14.

ECSU responded with a 19-yard run for a touchdown by running back Lyonell Cook with just 59 seconds left. The final score was 39-14.

The Lions defense fought hard, as they were lead by senior linebacker Daron Jones with 19 tackles, followed by fellow senior linebacker Brandon McElwee. Jeffrey Edwards, the senior safety contributed with 12 tackles, and senior corner back Wesley Hansboro added 10 tackles as well.

Offensively, the Lions were lead by Cook, who threw for 235 yards on 21-of-42 passing, and the leading receiver, Coston, with eight receptions for 119yards.
