By Tiffaney Knight Lincoln University’s Student Government Association searched high and low for contestants to take part in the “Number One Spot” contest.
The main requirement for the contest was that each participant be a current Lincoln University student.
“We wanted to approach performing on the homecoming stage different than past years. We wanted to give students the opportunity to showcase their raw talent. Once on the Homecoming stage contestants will compete for cash prizes,” said Regan Farley Vice President of External Affairs.
Auditions for the contest were held over a two day time period in front of a panel of judges with the finalist being narrowed down four groups and two solo acts.
The 1st place winner of the contest will receive $500, 2nd place $300 and 3rd $200 in a scholarship money.
The winners include Arts Nova, Andreas Roberts, Mathew Coston, Mamabi “Mac”Kromah, Donte Mintez, Wallace Brooks, and Devon Hall.
When asked about nervousness Roberts said “I’m a mass communications major I gotta do this for a living.”
On Saturday, October 8th the top contestants will advance to the homecoming stage to open for Big Sean & Wale.
Kromah was asked what he wants the audience to walk away with from his music. He said, “I tell the story for those who can’t tell it themselves. I aspire to inspire.”
